Abu Dhabi: Free Practice 1 Times

Friday’s first practice session took place on a very green Yas Marina circuit in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The session was largely uneventful, and ended with Sebastian Vettel fastest in the Red Bull racing-Renault, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in the McLaren-Mercedes. Mark Webber put his Red Bull Racing-Renault into fourth ahead of the Renault of Robert Kubica. Championship leader Fernando Alonso was sixth in the Ferrari. Brazilian pole-sitter Nico Hulkenberg could only manage 17th in the Williams F1-Cosworth. Continue reading

Force India have spare seat

Autosport have published an interview with Force India’s CEO Otmar Szafnauer. In it, Szafnauer reveals that Force India have got a spare seat for the 2011 season:

“We haven’t made any decisions yet on where we go. I think we have got the luxury of being able to assess the situation and make a decision. But there is a seat available.”

Some irreputable sources claim that this mean Paul di Resta will be replacing Tonio Liuzzi next season, due to the Italian scoring 13 points to teammate Adrian Sutil‘s 47, however, this seems to ignore the facts revealed by the previous question:

“Q. So what is your feeling moving on then? Tonio has a contract for next year, but Adrian has not yet made his mind up what he is doing?”

The simple facts are Adrian Sutil is out of contract at the end of this year, and McLaren are keen for Force India to give di Resta a race seat as part of their technical partnership.

With only one major seat available at the front of the grid, with Renault, Sutil would be wise to sign an extension at Force India, however, this would leave di Resta on the sidelines once more.
